About BriefStack
How This Started
We're four engineers who met through work, open source, and too many late-night incident calls. Each of us has a day job we care about — shipping code, scaling infrastructure, training models, debugging production at 3 AM. The usual.
BriefStack started as a shared habit. We were all doing the same thing every morning: scanning RSS feeds, skimming Hacker News, forwarding articles to each other in Slack. At some point, Lucas said "We should just write this stuff down properly."So we did.
This isn't a media company. There's no editorial board or content calendar decided by committee. We each write about what we know, what we're working on, and what we think matters. If something's overhyped, we'll say so. If something's genuinely useful, we'll show you how to use it.
The Team
Lucas Hayes
Editor-in-Chief — Dev & Engineering
12 years in software development, cloud architecture, and AI engineering. Started BriefStack because he wanted a place where engineers share real-world insights without the corporate fluff.
[email protected]Elena Novak
AI & ML Lead — AI & Machine Learning
Statistics and neuroscience background turned ML engineer. Spent years watching perfectly good AI concepts get buried under marketing buzzwords. Writes to strip the hype and show you what actually works — and what's just noise.
[email protected]Marcus Cole
Cloud & DevOps Lead — Cloud & DevOps
Platform engineer who's been through every infrastructure era — bare metal, VMs, containers, serverless. Has strong opinions about YAML files and even stronger opinions about over-engineering.
[email protected]Chloe Chen
Dev & Engineering Lead — Dev & Engineering
Full-stack engineer obsessed with developer experience. Thinks code should be written for the humans who maintain it, not just the machines that run it.
[email protected]What We Cover
Three areas, four perspectives — each written by someone who actually does this work:
🤖 AI & Machine Learning
LLM developments, training techniques, deployment strategies, and the business impact of AI — with the hype stripped away.
☁️ Cloud & DevOps
Kubernetes, Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud infrastructure. Real configurations, real trade-offs, and honest cost comparisons.
⚙️ Dev & Engineering
Software architecture, open source, frameworks, and the tools that shape how we build. Always with working code you can actually use.
How We Write
We all have day jobs. This blog is how we think out loud, keep records of what we learn, and share what we wish someone had told us earlier. A few things we agree on:
- Write from experience: If we haven't used it, deployed it, or debugged it, we say so
- Cite your sources: Every claim links back to where we found it
- Be practical: Theory is fine, but show people what to actually do
- Respect the reader's time: No filler, no fluff, no 500-word introductions
- Own your opinions: We take positions and explain why — you can disagree
